The first ever inter-school cricket tournament (under 16 boys) organized by Kiphire District Cricket Association (KDCA) under the aegis of Nagaland Cricket Association (NCA) kicked off on Monday at the public ground Kiphire town.
In the opening day, the first match which was played between Holy Cross High School and Agape Hr. Secondary School, Agape won the match with 37 runs all out. Winning the toss, Agape Hr. Secondary School opted to bat and has scored 80 runs in 14.3 over with loss of 10 wickets and while Holy Cross School chasing the target of 80 run, were all out in 11 overs and managed to score 43 runs.
In the second match between Trinity High School and Loyola Higher Secondary School, the Loyola Hr. Secondary School chasing the target of 77 runs has won the match with six wickets in 9.2 over.
The inaugural programme was graced by SDO Civil Kiphire HQ, Sulanthung Khenchung as special the guest. In his speech, he expressed his appreciation to the association for organizing such tournament for the young talents under Kiphire district, who are at the initial stages and at its prime where such shaping and moulding is necessity in order to shape them in their respective interest.
Khenchung said cricket is loved globally, which is much respected and honoured. He urged the participating schools to uphold their best not just to win the game but to learn discipline and responsibility in holistic ways.
Altogether, 8 schools are participating in the tournament which will conclude on May 8.
The inaugural programme was compered by Hopila Sangtam, invocation by pastor KTBL, Chopongkyu Anar, welcome address by convenor KDCA, short speeches by Hd GB Kiphire Throngseli Sangtam and members of All-Private School Association Kiphire, while benediction was said by pastor Nepali Baptist Church Kiphire, Bhim Sapkota.
