Deplorable condition of roads remains unchanged in Kiphire district, which is one among the 115 identified Aspirational Districts in the country.
Kiphire administrative headquarters established on June 16, 1952 was declared full-fledged district on January 24, 2004, but the roads in Kiphire are in poor condition as in 1950s. Despite cores of rupees pumped in for construction and maintenance of roads, the roads remain the same and in many places the roads are left ignored.
The pathetic road leading to Zisaji Presidency Government College, the only college in the district, located some three km away from Kiphire town, poses threat to the commuters as the road has been left unattended by the responsible department. The particular road, which also leads to Amahator town, could become unmotorable if it is not maintained at the earliest.
The renovation and maintenance works undertaken by PWD (R&B) early this year has been stopped following the onset of monsoon and have failed to resume. In this regard, the Citizen Welfare Society (CWS) has also written a letter to the deputy commissioner (DC) Kiphire for resuming road works at Kiphire town.
Other roads including Kiphire town-Amahator-Lukhami, Sitimi town-Seyochung town, Kiphire town-Kiusam town, Kiphire town-Pungro town and Pungro town-Mimi have become a nightmare for commuters. It may be mentioned that the proposed International Trade Centre (ITC) is located near Mimi village.
During the recent Kiphire District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meeting, the board members questioned the PWD(R&B) for not taking initiatives during “Swatcheta Seva Week” that was conducted from September 29 to October 2, 2018.
With the State Cabinet meeting scheduled to be held at Kiphire town in the first week of November 2018, heavy arrangements have been going on initiated by district administration and police along with tribal hohos like USLP, YTC and ESH.
