
Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Mon, on Wednesday organised a Kisan Kalyan Karyashalas (Farmers Welfare Day) event at Konyak Nyupuh Sekho Khong (KNSK) premises, Mon Town which was jointly graced by Thavaseelan K, Deputy Commissioner, Mon and Arun Jay Kumar, Central Observer, Gram Swaraj Abhiyan, in the presence of Agri and Allied department officials.
Speaking at the function Thavaseelan K encouraged farmers to remain focused on new technologies to improve their income and also open themselves up to various schemes and new technologies designed for grams (villages). While lauding the efforts of the Agri & Allied departments in the district, he also reminded them to educate farmers and villagers on various schemes and programs to double the income of farmers by 2022.
Farmer Groups, Self help Groups, Commodity interest Groups and Food Security Groups from Hongphoi, Mon, Yuching, Tangnyu, Goching, Chi and Totok villages and Progressive Farmers from Lampong Sheanghah, Totok, Tuimei and Longkei participated in the Programme.
An exhibition stall was also set up to mark the day, which was inaugurated jointly by the DC and Central Observer.
As part of the programme, department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry led by Dr. Manloi Konyak, conducted a free animal health camp, where more than 400 dogs were vaccinated for free and given free medicine.
Later, during the technical session a Farmer and Scientist Interaction Programme was held where farmers and department officials jointly discussed at length, various pest and disease management, good management practices of the animal and husbandry field, fish pond management practices, horticultural crops and plantation agriculture. The Deputy Commissioner also handed out prizes to the best farmer of Mon block and the best participating farmer groups. Yeangmoi of Hongphoi was awarded the best farmer and Nyatong CIG from Totok village was selected as the best participating farmer group.
The programme was chaired by Subenthung Odyuo, dy. project director, ATMA, Mon and vote of thanks was pronounced by Chaiwang Konyak.
ATMA, Mon also reportedly organised Kisan Kalyan Karyashalas (Farmers Welfare Day) at various blocks under Mon District, viz. Aboi Block at KVK premises, Tobu block at Tobu Town, Tizit block at Ngangtan village, Wakching Block at Tanhai Village and Phomching block at Longwa Village.
