DIMAPUR: In a major crackdown on illegal drug trafficking, Kohima Police recovered significant quantities of suspected heroin and opium and arrested four individuals in two separate operations conducted earlier this month on May 5 and 12.
According to PRO Kohima Police, the first operation took place on May 5 under the jurisdiction of Khuzama Police Station. A mobile patrol team intercepted a Maruti Alto (NL07CD 5992) travelling from Kidima towards Viswema. Upon searching the vehicle, police recovered 25 soap cases containing suspected heroin (locally known as Shan Flower), weighing approximately 302 grams. Two occupants of the vehicle, identified as Kharamo Aziah (28) and A.L. Keystone (39), were arrested in connection with the seizure.
In another operation on May 12, a Kohima Police mobile unit under Kezocha Police Station intercepted a Mahindra Bolero (AS03X 1718) at Kidima while it was en route to Kohima from Mao. A thorough search led to the recovery of six packets of suspected opium, weighing around 6 kg in total, concealed in the left speaker compartment of the vehicle.
Two individuals, identified as Mohan Chhetry (M) and R. Chaonai (F) were arrested.
Cases have been registered at Khuzama and Kezocha police stations following the seizures under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and investigations are ongoing to trace possible links with larger trafficking networks.
Kohima Police have urged citizens to report any information on drug peddling or suspicious activities, assuring complete confidentiality of informants.
