In pursuance to its earlier notifications, Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) has seized a huge quantity of vegetables and other items from footpath vendors along the main road from Phoolbari to Mission Compound junction in the state capital on Wednesday.
KMC said today’s seizure was a follow up action of the frequent remainders and warnings to the vegetable vendors who sales their things in congested and narrow road causing problem to the pedestrians and vehicle movement.
Interacting with this Correspondent, administrator KMC Kovi Meyase said the Council hesitated to implement this action which caused loss to the sellers and hurting their sentiments.
He however said the Council has no option as they (vendors) failed to obey the order though given with often warnings not to sell by the road sides.
He said seized items would be given to the orphanage, mental health institution, old age home etc.
Meyase said the Council with the collaboration of Angamimiapfü Mechü Krotho (AMK) has designated AMK market for the vegetable vendors and they should use the place. KMC also informed that vegetable vendors have no trade license which is illegal.
The seized items includes fresh vegetables, fruits, snails, tea kettle, leaves, local garlic, maize etc weighed around 500 kg worth thousands rupees.
KMC warned the vendors not to repeat again and said such action would take up again in the coming days for the welfare of the people and in the interest of the general public.
