KMC bans sale and use of SUP

Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) has informed all concerned on the complete ban on use and sale of Single Use Plastic (SUP) under Kohima municipality with effect from August 1, 2024. A press statement by KMC Administrator, T Lanusenla Longkumer, informed that the step was taken in pursuance to the government notification issued by Deputy Commissioner of Kohima.


The banned items included all SUP carry bags, irrespective of microns, and all SUP bottles for water and soft drinks below one litre. KMC warned that a penalty of Rs. 10,000 for first office and Rs. 20,000 for second offence would be realized from defaulters, and would led to permit cancellation for subsequent offence.
