KMC directs on waste management compliance

DIMAPUR: The Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) has issued a notification directing all wards under its jurisdiction to strictly comply with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026.
According to the order issued by Chief Executive Officer of KMC, Alemyapang Longchar, the Dzürüzou dumping site will now be managed by Prege Eco Green Foundation. The foundation has been tasked with ensuring scientific segregation, processing and disposal of waste in line with the guidelines laid down under the rules.
The notification instructed all 19 wards under KMC to coordinate with the foundation and adhere to operational directives. It specifically prohibited individuals or parties from carrying back segregated waste from the landfill site.
The council warned that any ward, individual or establishment failing to comply with the directives or violating segregation norms would be liable for penalties under the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026.
