KMC distributes eco-friendly products

Correspondent

To tackle the menace of stench from septic tanks, the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) distributed Aerobio and Green bran products to all the Kohima municipal wards.
Speaking as the guest of honour during the distribution programme, advisor, Municipal Affairs and Urban Development, Dr. Neikiesalie Nicky Kire said that the environmentally friendly products would bring about effective waste treatment in Kohima city.
Meanwhile, representatives of Aerobio, Nuvekholu Medeo and Kaberi Das highlighted the need of the indigenously formulated product which consists of novel bacterial consortia.
They informed that this broke down human faeces, helped in making the environment odour free and could be used across a range of temperature with no production of methane gas.
They said that the formulation could be poured with half a bucket of water with sludge reduction and could be used to control contaminated groundwater converting it to non-toxic pH-neutral water.
The team from Aerobio however advised the people not to use harmful disinfectants such as harpic or soap solutions while using the liquid as it could kill the microbial community which functioned in the tanks.
The product is claimed to be the first of its kind in the state and in the country.
Rokobikho Savino highlighted that Greenbran was based on effective microorganisms to enhance the life of septic tanks and decompose solid wastes.
Savino said that greenball was a similar product that functioned by itself when tossed into a water body.
The programme was chaired by the administrator, T. Lanusenla Longkumer followed by an interaction and distribution of the products.
