Administrator Kohima Municipal Council (KMC), Kovi Meyase said that the KMC was in touch with L. Khel Kohima village to initiate immediate emergency measures to repair the road to the KMC dumping site at Dziiriizou. Speaking to this correspondent on Wednesday, Meyase was hopeful that the repair work should begin by next week.
He said that the two KMC approach roads to the dumping site were completely off by the massive landslide at Perizie colony and Lerie, and at present, vehicles were using the alternate road near IG stadium to go the Dziiriizou dumping site.
He said the road condition to Dziiriizou dumping site was very bad and slippery due to incessant rains. It took two hours to travel to and from the site but now it takes double the time. He said that though the KMC sanitary workers usually start their work by 3.30 or 4 a.m, the second trip was difficult due to heavy traffic jams in the day.
On the Lerie landfill, Meyase informed this correspondent that it may take several months to repair the landslide damaged approach road and KMC has also approached Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority for immediate emergency relief.
