KMC flays office burglary; forms internal assessment panel

Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) has expressed deep anguish and unequivocally condemned the act of burglary that occurred within its office premises on the intervening night of June 2, 2025. The KMC stands firmly against this brazen act of lawlessness and is fully committed to ensuring that those responsible are swiftly brought to justice.
In its immediate response to the incident, KMC stated that it has formally lodged a First Information Report (FIR) with the concerned authorities. The council further assured that it is extending full and unreserved cooperation to the investigating agencies, providing all necessary assistance to aid their efforts. Beyond assisting law enforcement, KMC said it has also constituted an Internal Assessment Committee.
This committee’s primary mandate is to conduct a thorough review of all internal office procedures, identify any potential structural lapses or vulnerabilities that may have contributed to the incident, and implement robust measures to significantly strengthen security protocols across the board it added.
The council also assured the public that transparency, accountability, and security remain its highest priorities. Reaffirming its unwavering commitment that criminal activities will not be allowed to undermine the dignity and effective functioning of the institution, KMC stated that it will continue to serve the public with utmost integrity and dedication.
Appealing to the public, KMC urged anyone with relevant information regarding the incident to come forward and assist the police in their investigation, to help ensure that justice is delivered swiftly and effectively.

AKMWC condemns theft at KMC office; questions handling of public funds

All Kohima Municipal Ward Council (AKMWC) has condemned the robbery at Kohima Municipal Council office, where over Rs. 1 crore in public funds was allegedly stolen.
In a statement, AKMWC president Thejao Sekhose, said that the council demanded that law enforcement agencies initiate an immediate and thorough investigation, apprehend the culprits, and take stringent action as deemed appropriate. The council also raised several serious concerns over the manner in which public funds were handled by the KMC authorities. It questioned how such a large sum of money was kept unguarded and without adequate security measures? Why wasn’t the amount deposited in the bank? Substantiate reasons. What was the purpose of the funds and how will KMC justify the loss?
AKMWC expressed apprehension about the potential complicity of KMC authorities in the robbery and called for transparency and accountability in the investigation process, thereby prove that the robbery was not stage managed.
