
Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) 9th annual inter-ward cleanliness competition-cum-pre-Christmas celebration under the theme “Say no to single-use plastic” was held on December 16 evening at KMC office.
For inter-ward, Officers’ Hill (ward 10) was adjudged the winner for the inter-ward cleanliness competition 2019 and received Rs 50,000, followed by Lower Chandmari (ward 13) and Para Medical (ward 18) in second and third position. They received Rs 30,000 and Rs. 20,000 respectively. VP Hardware, Keziekie was declared the cleanest shop, while RS Glass Shop, TCP Gate second and Sports World, Old Taxi Stand in third.
For sanitary workers award under Swachh Survekshan 2020, Duokuo-ü Dzuvichu, Kelhousenu, Krune Lecho, Bikroi Marak and Rajat Majumdar were awarded with cash and certificates.
KMC also informed that by 2020, a new award category of hotels and restaurants will be included.
Advisor of Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Dr. Neikiesalie Nicky Kire gracing the occasion suggested that cleanliness should be a daily affair to maintain cleanliness in Kohima throughout the year. He also requested the Kohima town people not to only decorate and maintain cleanliness during the festival season but throughout the year so that it can bring some positive change in the town.
KCCI president Medozhatuo Rutsa and Association of Kohima Municipal Wards Panchayat (AKMWP) president Neibulie Kiewhuo also spoke at the celebration, while KMC administrator Kovi Meyase delivered welcome address.
