KMC informs on plastic waste management

Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) informed all manufacturers, importers, stockists, distributors, sellers and users of plastic and compostable carry bags to comply with provisions of the “plastic waste management (PWM) rules 2016. 
KMC informed that the thickness of petro-based plastic carry bags/films should be 50 microns & above, except for compostable carry bags. Shopkeepers /street vendors under Kohima municipality willing to provide plastic carry bags for dispensing any commodity should register with KMC and manufacturers. 
It also informed that sellers of compostable carry bags/films should obtain certificate from central pollution control board (CPCB) before marketing and selling of such carry bags/films. 
All unlicensed & unregistered plastic carry bags/films manufacturing units running in residential area (unapproved area) should be closed down by the concerned district magistrate/deputy commissioner /municipal authority /SPCB/PCC under its jurisdiction.
