KMC informs on Sunday shop closure

Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) has informed all the business establishments/traders within its jurisdiction that only shops with Sunday Permit issued by KMC would be allowed to open on all Sundays with effect from July 10, 2023.


In a notification, KMC administrator T. Lanusenla Longkumer stated that the decision was taken at the coordination meeting at deputy commissioner’s office chamber on June 28, 2023 with regard to closure of shops / business establishments on Sundays within Kohima Municipality.


KMC informed that Sunday permit would be issued as per the previous notification dated March 6, 2021, wherein 10 business establishments/shops only would be permitted in each ward after obtaining “No Objection Certificate” from the concerned ward chairman.


However, KMC informed that pharmacies, hotels, bakeries & barber shops were exempted from the purview. KMC cautioned that any business establishment/shop or vendor doing business on Sunday without permit would be penalized as deemed fit and the materials/ items would be seized/ confiscated.
