In continuation of its office order, the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) has directed the public within the Kohima municipality’s jurisdiction to ensure that their dogs are vaccinated and securely confined within their premises.
In a notification, KMC administrator T Lanusenla Longkumer informed that it has observed that dogs have been let loose and are found to be freely roaming in the town, causing disturbances and putting the safety of the public at risk.
The municipality has requested all dog owners to always confine their pets within their compounds and if dogs taken outside, it has to be done on a leash.
It also informed that the Dog Pound located at Chau Parking is temporarily non-operational due to technical issues as KMC is currently unable to impound stray dogs as per the direction.
In light of this, the municipality has sought cooperation from all Ward Panchayats and citizens to help maintain cleanliness and safety in the town until an alternative dog pound facility is set up.
