KMC launches online trade license application portal

Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) has launched an online trade license application & issuance system online under e-municipality as a service (AMRUT) for the first time in the state. The initiative was launched by minister for urban development, municipal affairs & taxes Metsubo Jamir at KMC office Kohima on Wednesday.
The program was a joint initiative by National Informatics Centre (NIC), KMC and Urban Development Department (UDD), government of Nagaland for eMaaS reforms under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation & Urban Transformation (AMRUT).
Jamir in his address thanked the KMC and NIC for successfully launching the program which, he said, would resolve many problems and make the task of getting trade licenses easier for the public. He spoke in favour of one common public domain to access technology facilities for the citizens of Kohima town. He cautioned the concerned department to check license misuse and genuine candidates being denied licenses. He suggested that in issuing trade licenses, preference should be given to local candidates for their employment opportunity.
Advisor for rural development Dr. Nicky Kire in his address said that the online portal had many positive aspects because the modern world requires technology to move forward although technology also had negative aspects. He said that Dimapur and Mokokchung may also introduce similar public facilities in the coming days.
Kohima deputy commissioner Rajesh Soundararajan, in his address, lauded KMC for launching the first online trade license portal in the state which, he said, would save time and energy. He stated that it would bring transparency, ease of processing and a revolution to the KMC.
KMC administrator, Elizabeth Ngully who chaired the program, said launching the online trade license portal in line with the digital India initiative, was a proud moment for KMC. She said this facility would deliver doorstep services to the public, bring accountability, transparency and help in other productive activities.
Scientist ‘B’ NIC Novotsono gave a slide show presentation on the online trade license system said that with Digital India gaining momentum, the government was placing a lot of emphasis on improving its interface with citizens and businesses. She said that in view of this, there had been a surge in the demand for end to end workflow–based ICT solutions for delivering services to citizens and businesses. A member from NIC and mission director AMRUT also addressed the gathering.
