State Governor, P.B. Acharya, on Saturday underlined the need for empowerment of the people through education and contributing towards building of the society and nation.
Addressing a huge gathering at the 8th annual day celebration of Sainik School Punglwa, Acharya said “knowledge is empowerment” without which no society could progress.
He also said education would have no relevance only if its sole motive was to make materialistic profits. Governor asserted a person who worked for progress of the nation was the one empowered by education.
Stating that schools and universities in the State were second to none, Acharya, however, expressed concern over migration of hundreds of students outside to pursue their studies. He also expressed concern over wide prevalence of proxy teaching in government schools.
Emphasising on promoting indigenous languages, he said language is “our identity” and remarked that “we are uprooted from our culture” with the invasion of western culture. Asserting that India was a young nation and has the potentials to become a great nation, Acharya called upon the people to contribute towards building the country.
Further, governor encouraged the cadets to pursue their studies with dedication and hard work to achieve success in life. He also encouraged Naga youth pursue career in Indian army.
Governor also released the school journal and inaugurated the Science cum Art exhibition and gave away trophies to meritorious students. Cadet Tanthuilubo Zeliang was conferred the coveted ‘Col BS Rathore Best Passing Out Cadet Trophy’ while the Cock House Trophy for the Academic Year 2014-15 was awarded to Doyang House.
School Principal Capt (IN) Kanchan Mukherjee, in his Annual Report, mentioned that the school secured 100% pass result in the AISSE for 4th consecutive year. He also informed that three indigenous Naga cadets have qualified the UPSC (NDA) Entrance Exam in January 2015. The function ended with the vote of thanks proposed by Lt Col Jitendra Dogra, School Headmaster. Members of Old Boys Association (OBA) of Nagaland, dignitaries, parents and village elders joined the celebration.
