Kohima district adm evicts encroachers at NLA complex

Kohima district administration led by SDO (C) evicted land encroachers residing inside the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) complex, here on Saturday morning.
SDO (C) was accompanied by Dobashis, Police and officials from the revenue office.
During the eviction drive, which began early in the morning and lasted for around 4 hours, two illegal structures were demolished while two under construction RCC structures were sealed. Of the two demolished structures, one was used as a shop while the other was used as a residence. One of the encroachers claimed that they had not received any prior eviction notice and came to know about it only on Friday night.
However, district officials claimed that they had served more than one notice to the occupants. Around four families were reportedly residing in three of the structures.
Sharing their plight, one of the residents said they had nowhere to stay since the eviction was carried out suddenly.
Talking to the media, SDO (C) Chompenthung said the administration carried out the eviction drive of illegal occupation of public land and government property. “The land belonged to Nagaland Legislative Assembly. After receiving report from RO office, DC Kohima had detailed the magistrates to evict the persons and illegal occupiers and we have done so,” he added.
He said the authorities dismantled two temporary structures and sealed off buildings, area and evicted the illegal residents.
