Kohima DLSA launches Aadhaar Drive under SAATHI campaign

Dimapur

Kohima District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) launched a two-day Special Aadhaar Registration Drive under the SAATHI campaign at the District Court Complex, Kohima on September 30. The initiative was inaugurated by Neiko Akami, Member Secretary, Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA).
In his address, Akami highlighted the objectives of SAATHI (Identity and Dignity), a 2025 initiative of the National Legal Services Authority aimed at providing legal identity through Aadhaar cards to destitute children and linking them to essential services such as education, healthcare, and welfare schemes. He urged Kohima DLSA to extend the campaign to Tseminyu district to ensure wider coverage of vulnerable groups.
Akami noted that the drive was launched in response to overwhelming public demand witnessed during the Mega Legal Camp held by NSLSA in April 2025.
Deputy Commissioner Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, also spoke on the occasion, stressing the importance of Aadhaar in accessing government schemes like CMHIS. He encouraged citizens to utilise the registration drive and called on KDLSA to continue legal awareness programmes that inform people of both their rights and civic responsibilities.
Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by Mezivolu T. Therieh, principal District and Sessions Judge and chairperson of Kohima DLSA, who spoke on the constitutional validity and significance of Aadhaar. The programme was chaired by Nagali Shohe, Panel Lawyer, Kohima DLSA. On the first day of the drive, around 220 beneficiaries availed Aadhaar registration services.
