Kohima: Dr. Yhome inaugurates upgraded GHS Phezoucha

Advisor of School Education & SCERT, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, inaugurated the upgraded Government High School, Phezoucha, and unveiled the new school building at New Secretariat Area, Kohima, on Tuesday.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Yhome said the Department of School Education was working to improve the management and functioning of government schools to restore public trust and raise standards. He outlined a three-pillar strategy for reform—development of infrastructure, governance and administrative reforms, and scaling of school standards.
He also spoke on changing public perception that government schools cater only to weaker sections, pointing out that several state toppers in recent years had emerged from government institutions. He noted that migration of students from private schools to government schools had helped families ease financial burdens. Expressing hope that the school would soon be upgraded to higher secondary level, he encouraged students to strive for excellence and assured continued support for the institution’s growth.
Tracing the school’s journey, Head Teacher Ketuoneinuo Mepfuo informed that the institution was initiated in 2006 by local residents and functioned as an Education Guaranteed School under SSA till 2009 with voluntary service from the community as teaching faculty. It became a full-fledged government school in 2010 and gradually expanded from Primary to Middle and now High School level, currently running up to Class 9.
From a humble beginning with six teachers in a single room, the school has grown to 20 faculty members with a total enrolment of 204 students. In the past two years, 34 students migrated from private schools to the institution, and following its upgradation, 61 new students have enrolled this year.
The unveiling ceremony was chaired by Beituo Mepfuo, the main programme was led by Neisalhoukhrono, and chairman of Phezoucha Kelhoungunyu Vizo delivered the vote of thanks.
