Kohima DTF meeting on malaria elimination

Kohima District Task Force (DTF) meeting for the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) on malaria elimination was held Tuesday at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kohima Office.
A press release by Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kohima office stated that the meeting was held in convergence with the allied departments of agriculture, education, fisheries and social welfare.
In an overview of malaria elimination presentation, District Vector Borne Officer (DVBO) Dr. Kevihulie Meyase, briefed the house on the overall performance of malaria status in Kohima district. He also highlighted the important vision of the programme, citing that it eliminates malaria and contributes to improved health and quality of life.


Under the programme, he said the goal was to attain zero indigenous cases in the district by 2022 and 2030 throughout the country, maintain malaria-free status in areas where malaria transmission has been interrupted and to prevent re-introduction of malaria.
Dr. Meyase informed the allied department present about convergence department responsibility in coordination to carry out surveillance, advocacy and generating awareness for the welfare of the community.


Through this advocacy coordination and partnership intervention, he said it can bring out maximal achievement of free malaria.
In his closing remarks, DC Kohima, Kumar Ramnikant, suggested that the wards’ chairman, NGOs should also be included in the next meeting, to generate awareness among the public and to have a better sensitization programme at community level.
The programme was chaired by deputy CMO Kohima, Dr. Imchastoshi.
