The state capital Kohima has been enlisted into the assessment of liveability index and rate cities amongst 117 cities across India.
According to a DIPR report, a state orientation workshop was held on Wednesday, on assessment of liveability indices at the Chief Secretary’s conference hall, Kohima. It was attended by the 21 line Departments and stakeholders concerned under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Temjen Toy (IAS).
The Chief Secretary in his key note address at inaugural session said the the ‘liveability standards index’ was a mission and a project which is basically to improve the liveability of a particular city. Stating that the GoI decided to quantify 117 cities across the country, Toy urged the Heads of departments to work in coordination towards the fulfillment of the mission.
Urban Department Govt. of Nagaland, Secretary, Motsuthung who delivered the welcome address also informed the departments to nominate a nodal officer each to coordinate with the Urban Development Department immediately only 12 days were left adding that the web portal will be closed after April 16. He also said that the state was a little behind the schedule particularly due to the state assembly elections. He requested all the stakeholders and departments to give due emphasis on the activities of the mission.
Nodal Officer for North East, Dr. Natashori. K gave a power point presentation on the overview of the liveability index, data entry portal progress monitoring dash board, key timeline and milestones and role of the coordinators. She further spoke on the composition of the cities, understanding the stakeholders’ responsibilities, formulation of comprehensive city and master plans, thereby serving as a concrete plan in achieving sustainable development goals.
