Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Dr. Neikiesalie (Nicky) Kire said Kohima was gradually moving towards a digital society.
He was speaking at the inaugural of Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) Online Services (eKMC) at Integrated Command and Control Centre, KMC office, here on Wednesday.
The recent introduction of e-Vidaan at Nagaland Legislative Assembly, the launch of Senior Citizens’ Centre and the launch of eKMC were all efforts towards making Kohima go digital, the advisor said.
He added that even older generations who were not very tech savvy could join in this transformation with the help of their children and the younger generation.
By going digital, he said people living in nearby villages could avoid coming to Kohima by accessing online facilities in the comforts of their home.
He viewed that this would potentially and slightly lessen traffic congestion in the city which had now become a huge problem.
The advisor observed that Kohima as a whole was changing, especially at infrastructural level with people having access to better roads, more footpaths, smart city street lights, close circuit television (CCTV) at traffic intersections, cycle tracks and parks which would soon be constructed.
Claiming that the newly inaugurated Capital Cultural Hall was one of the best among such halls in the North East, Dr. Nicky said all these activities were testament to the change the government promised.
Exhorting the youth especially those at urban areas to develop good habits, he said young people should be polite to the elderly and extend help to them whenever they were in need of it.
He urged upon KMC to be willing to render help to senior citizens whenever they come to the office for any kind of work especially with the new digital system.
In his keynote address, CEO of Kohima Smart City Development Limited (KSCDL), Er K Theünuo said one of the key objectives of Smart City mission was to make use of innovative and technology to improve existing system. He said the practice of doing office work manually was inefficient comparatively, resulting in lapse of communication, approvals and decisions.
Theünuo said with advancement in digital technology, KSCDL also took introduced online digital systems by using latest available softwares to propel Nagaland, not just to become relevant in digital age but also lead in the e-governance.
Meanwhile, technical presentations were given by representatives of KSCDL and National Informatics Centre (NIC) who jointly worked on the eKMC.
