The 1st Nagaland Masters Table Tennis Championship, organized under the aegis of the Nagaland Masters Table Tennis Association (NMTTA) and Nagaland Table Tennis Association (NTTA), concluded on September 6 in Kohima. The two-day event saw participation from seven districts and featured 44 veteran players competing across team and individual categories.
The championship, which marked a significant milestone for veteran sports in the state, was open to players aged 40 and above. Kohima District clinched the title in the 40+ Men’s Team category, while Meluri District emerged victorious in the 50+ Men’s Team division.
Kevithuto Sophie, graced the opening day as special guest and emphasized the importance of physical fitness and active lifestyles to combat sedentary health issues. Recalling his own experiences with table tennis in the late 1970s, he encouraged participants to remain engaged in sports for overall well-being.
On the second day, guest of honor Kovi Meyase, lauded the organizers for the smooth conduct of the tournament and highlighted the role of Masters Associations in promoting sports across Nagaland. He expressed confidence in the region’s natural aptitude for physical sports and extended best wishes to the winners for the upcoming North East Masters Championship in Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh.

Runners-up – Mokokchung District (Takosunep, Tianochet); third – Kohima-A (Neitsilie Meru, Joseph Lasuh, Vincent Belho, Dr. Khriezotuo Paphino).
