DIMAPUR, MAY 6 (NPN): Phek District Nagaland Contractors’ & Suppliers’ Union (PDNCSU) has demanded that the state government immediately terminate the contract for the Kohima-Jessami 2-lane road Project Package II and blacklist the executing firm, Ratna Company, citing persistent delays, inadequate resources and inefficiency.
In a press release, PDNCSU president Kuzhosheyi Alex Soho and general secretary Medovelo Sono stated that during a spot verification on March 14, 2026, the union found only a minimal workforce and limited machinery deployed at the site: three excavators, eight dumper trucks, one road roller, one mini excavator and two water tankers — all hired rather than owned by the company.
The union described the deployment as “very disappointing,” reflecting “negligence and irresponsibility” on a major infrastructure project that had seen little progress despite years of work. Even after repeated appeals and agitations by various civil societies, PDNCSU said the company remained arrogant, paying no attention to the pleas of the public and causing massive inconvenience and risk to public safety. PDNCSU said the union representatives also met with company officials at the firm’s base camp at Sedzü Bridge. It said the company’s project manager, AS Vinod Kumar, agreed to complete black-topping of 600 meters between Kikruma village and North Kikruma (R.D. Block) by April 15, 2026. However, during a follow-up inspection on April 25, 2026, the union said the company had failed to meet the deadline.
In a subsequent meeting with Vinod Kumar and structural engineer Itobo Assumi, the union decided to summon Ratna Company General Manager Murthy Mahankali to appear before it by May 15, 2026, for urgent discussions.
The union warned that failure to appear would force it to take its own course of action, for which the company would be held solely responsible for any untoward incidents.
