Kohima, Meluri host science seminars on quantum age

DIMAPUR

District-level science seminars were held in Kohima and Meluri on September 30 under the theme “The Quantum Age Begins: Potentials and Challenges,” aimed at fostering scientific inquiry and critical thinking among students.
In Kohima, the seminar was organised by the District Education Office in collaboration with the National Science Centre, Guwahati (a unit of the National Council of Science Museums, Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India) and the Directorate of School Education (DoSE), Nagaland.
Delivering the keynote address, Patricia Vizo, joint director, DoSE, emphasized the transformative potential of quantum science, noting its growing influence in daily life and its applications in agriculture, health, energy, and technology. She urged students to use quantum tools responsibly and reminded them of Albert Einstein’s words: “The important thing is not to stop questioning.”
The programme was led by Kajina Sote, Project Assistant, DMA, Samagra Shiksha, with invocation by Neisiesa Chüsi, AEO, Sr. SDEO Kohima. Welcome address was delivered by Rokoneinuo, ADC, DMA, Samagra Shiksha. Judges included John Kiso (GHSS Kigwema), Neikezhapfü Dzüvichü (TMGHSS), and Sarokhaibam Dayananda Singh (Mezhür HSS).
Among eight participating schools, the winners were: 1st Position: Ejonthung Odyuo, Mt. Hermon HSS; 2nd Position: Rekuyile Nsarangbe, Living Tree School and 3rd Position: Neksung Caleb Longkumer, Stella HSS.
The winners will represent Kohima district at the State-Level Science Seminar on October 10.
Meanwhile, the Meluri District-Level Science Seminar was held at EBRC Hall, Meluri, under the aegis of the Directorate of School Education. Chairperson Pharhetho, LDA, delivered the welcome address, while Kaitunchap Newmai, SDEO Meluri, gave the keynote, encouraging students to nurture curiosity and innovation.
Students from various schools presented insightful papers on quantum science. Jurists provided feedback and announced the winners: 1st Prize: Pfülürü Pichurü, Class 9, St. Xavier Hr. Sec. School, Meluri; 2nd Prize: Kinglesü Jangri, Class 10, GHS Sütsü and 3rd Prize: Tselamsü Tongru, Class 8, GMS Meluri Village.
The prize distribution and photo session were graced by Thsuchuvi Nyusou, ToT. In his closing remarks, the SDEO expressed gratitude to all participants, educators, and organisers for their contributions.
