Kohima Police has extended its gratitude and acknowledged the public support and co-operation in maintaining law and order in the district. While admitting its shortcomings and failures, Kohima Police has conveyed special thanks to the citizens particularly those who had helped in prevention and detection of crimes and criminals in the town.
A yearly crime report by senior superintendent of Police Kohima, Joseph Hesso stated that the District Executive Force of Kohima had registered a total number of 266 cognizable cases from January to December 2016. Out of which 159 are reported cases while 116 were suo-motu (self detected) cases by Kohima Police. It also stated that the present status of cases registered are (1) Chargesheet- 207, (2) Final Report- 38 and (3) Pending Investigation – 21. Amongst the suo-motu cases (self detected cases), the top 8 seizures are: (1) A total recovery of 40(forty) stolen vehicles worth about Rs 1.2 crores, comprising of Truck – 04, Dumper – 2, Mahindra pick-up – 12, Tata Sumo – 06, Tata pick-up – 02, Tata Xenon – 01, Tata Indigo – 01, Bolero – 02, Maruti Alto – 03, Maruti 800 – 03, Maruti Zen – 01, Maruti SX4 – 01, Maruti Esteem – 01, Hyundai Santro – 01, Motorcycle -01 (inclusive of 15 vehicles reported stolen from other States). (2) Seizure of 5818 kgs of Contraband Ganja worth about Rs. 1.16 crores in the national market. (3) Seizure of 18.5 Kgs of Oipum worth about Rs. 4.62 lakhs in the national market. (4) Seizure of assorted IMFL’s worth about Rs. 20 lakhs in the local market. (5) Seizure of 1,66,165 nos. of Spasmo Proxyvon and 1000 nos. of Nitrosun capsules worth about Rs. 16.71 lakhs. (6) Seizure of one oil tanker fully loaded with solvent chemical.
Seizure of various type of arms and ammo included one 7.65 mm pistol; one 9 mm pistol; six .22 pistol; three .32 pistol; six Muzzle Loading gun; two .22 Rifle; two 12 Bore SBBL Rifle; one 12 Bore DBBL Rifle; 7 Rds of 9 mm ammo; 9 Rds of 7.65 mm ammo and 26 Rds of .22 ammo. Kohima Police also seized various explosive substances like 70 gelatin sticks, cortex fuse wire measuring 17 meters and 230 detonator caps. Altogether 281 persons were arrested, out of which 269 were males while 12 were females.
