Kohima Science College launches green initiative campaign

On the observation of World Wetlands Day, Kohima Science College (KSC), Jotsoma launched Green Initiative Campaign, focusing on promoting sustainability and environmental responsibility at a special program held on February 1, at the college campus.


According to KSC Assistant professor/ Green initiative leader Shevito Theyo, the event emphasized the importance of waste management and wetland conservation in ensuring a healthier and more sustainable environment.


The program was organized in collaboration with the Nature’s Club and chaired by Natures club coordinator Tewe Medo. Delivering speech, Shevito Theyo, highlighted the purpose of the “Zero Waste Wednesday” campaign, and stressed on the college’s commitment to reduce waste and fostering eco-conscious practices.

“The initiative aims to encourage the entire campus to be more mindful of the waste we generate, focusing on sustainable waste management practices,” he said.


He asserted that the launching the campaign on World Wetlands Day symbolizes the important connection between responsible waste management and the protection of the vital wetland ecosystems.


Students and faculty were encouraged to actively participate in the movement to reduce waste, be more mindful of their environmental impact, and inspire others to adopt similar sustainable practices. “Our college campus should be known for its eco-conscious efforts, where sustainability is not just a buzzword, but a way of life,” Theyo said.


Delivering keynote address, Natures club secretary Kousal Kumar Pandit, highlighted the significance of World Wetlands Day. The event concluded with a pledge taken by all attendees to support the Green Initiative and commit to sustainable practices. The Nature’s Club, along with the participation of the college faculty and students, vowed to continue working towards a zero-waste campus.


Nagaland Pollution Control Board extended support to the observance of World Wetlands Day, and their continued cooperation in promoting environmental awareness was acknowledged during the program.
