DIMAPUR, SEP 18 (NPN): Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, B. Henok Buchem, convened a meeting with officials and representatives of various sports associations of Kohima district on September 18, at the DC’s Office to review preparations for the upcoming Nagaland Olympic and Paralympic Games 2026, scheduled to be held from November 2 to 14 in Chümoukedima and Dimapur.
According to a DIPR report, representatives from the Athletics, Basketball, Boxing, Football, Taekwondo, Archery and Wushu associations attended the meeting and briefed the DC on their respective preparations.
The meeting focused on logistics and expenditure requirements for the Kohima district contingent. In view of resource constraints, the DC endorsed the use of the Indira Gandhi Stadium free of charge, with support from the Department of Youth Resources & Sports, for conducting athletics selection trials.
Officials also finalized the appointment of the Chief de Mission and Deputy Chief de Mission for the Kohima contingent. Discussions were also held on reviving the Kohima District Sports Council, with a decision to convene a meeting soon after the Games to initiate the revival process.
The members agreed to seek clarification from the Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) regarding the permitted number of athletes, managers, physiotherapists and other officials for each district contingent. A follow-up meeting has been scheduled for September 23, after receiving the necessary clarification from the NOA, to finalize the contingents for all sports disciplines.
