Konyak Union (KU) has announced that it would abstain from attending the consultative meeting convened by the State government on AFSPA Monday. This was decided at the union’s advisory board meeting, KU media cell stated.
KU asserted that it will steadfastly stick to its decision that “No Konyak shall participate in any national event celebration” and also continue with the non-cooperation against Indian armed forces for an indefinite period till justice was delivered in the Oting massacre by the 21 Paras.
KU said that while Konyaks were steadfastly seeking justice in the December 4 Oting incident, the “delay and denial attitude” of the government seemed to be an open truth in justifying action that the killing those 14 innocent youths that was in quest for rank and medals.
KU said if such was the policy of the nation then, it feared that the fate of citizens was at stake. It mentioned that the Konyaks had waited for various actions initiated by the government where a committee on AFSPA and SIT were constituted but whose reports were still not made known and ignoring the Konyaks who had suffered at ground zero.
Noting that the SIT report had not been placed in public domain nor was the State government taking any action to deliver justice, KU termed the talks of compensation and development was nothing but appeasing an ailing man with sweets.
KU also insisted that the State Government must place the SIT report in the public domain to unearth truth. It asked the government to come out clean by ensuring justice in the Oting massacre.
KU also reiterated its demand that all jawans and officers involved in the killing of 14 youth be booked under civil court of law and action taken report brought before the public.
If such action was not meted out today then, it warned that tomorrow it could be anyone, adding that the nation must never watch in silence when atrocities were being committed on innocent citizens by Indian armed forces.
Seeking removal of AFSPA, KU mentioned that it was a pure violation of human rights when the Indian armed forces targeted innocent citizens instead of the insurgents.
Further, the union questioned why the draconian law was being enforced in a region where the citizen did not pay any tax to any Naga political groups.
It cautioned that if the bold efforts and steps taken up by the Konyaks were ignored, there would be no peace in the State and the nation.
Meanwhile, the union also criticised and condemned the barbaric and inhuman action of Assam Rifles at Chasa village in Arunachal Pradesh on April 2 in which two innocent youth were shot at. It accused the force of having gone too far disrespecting the sentiments of the people.
