Konyaks begin first phase of ‘War against Drugs’

In line with the declaration of the Konyak frontal organizations on “War against Drugs”, two-day training for detoxification camp coordinator was conducted on December 4 and 5 at Mission Compound, Mon by the Committee of Drug Abuse & Mitigation and Prevention (CoDAMP). 

A press release from member of CoDAMP, Bonnie Konyak stated that the training may be recalled that on September 4, all the Konyak apex organizations, Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong (KNSK), Konyak Students’ Union (KSU), Konyak Baptist Bumienok Bangjüm (KBBB) led by the Konyak Union decided to fight against the menace of drug abuse in the district and the community. With this objective, the CoDAMP was formed to lead the mass movement with technical and strategic support and expertise. 

The release stated that as its first step to “War against Drugs”, the Apex Konyak organization have decided to go ahead with detoxification camps for villages combating this problem of drug and opium abuse. It informed that the village councils and the churches, along with the students body and women’s organization would be responsible for organizing the camp with the help of the 27 volunteers who signed up to render their service as camp coordinators. 

The resource persons of the two days training were from Kripa Foundation Kohima. 

The introductory programme of the training was chaired by youth secretarry and member CoDAMP, Wangchah Konyak; the keynote address was given by convenor CoDAMP, Dr. Chenjei Konyak and prayer was offered by Executive Secretary of KBBB.

The Deputy Commissioner Mon, Thavaseelan K and Superintendent of Police Mon, Imnalensa, who were also present at the programme appreciated the effort of the CoDAMP and the tribal leaders and expressed their support for this movement and motivated the volunteers of the training. 

The Committee of Drug Abuse & Mitigation and Prevention (CoDAMP) is partnered with the Konyak Gazzetted Officers’ Union (KGOU), Joint Action Committee Against Opium Addiction (JACAOA), Mon Users Network (MUN), Gospel Outreach Ministry (GOM), Kripa Foundation and the Konyak Baptist Churches Association (KBBB).
