A five-day long Tsükhenyie-cum-73rd Youth Day of Pfutseromi Youth Organization (PYO) got underway at Pfutseromi village under Phek district, here, on Saturday.
Speaking at the programme as guest speaker, minister for Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue & Parliamentary Affairs, Neiba Kronu challenged the youth to work hard and never stay idle.
He asserted that the youth should have a zeal to work and face the various challenges ahead.
The minister urged upon the villagers to keep the village clean and beautify the surroundings since the village was one of the important tourist destinations in the state.
He maintained that hospitable attitude of the villagers has drawn the attention of tourists and further encouraged the people to take up fruit tree plantations on a commercial scale to boost the rural economy.
In his presidential address, PYO president Kope Mero said today, PYO was celebrating 73rd youth day because of the farsighted vision of past leaders and elders for the youth and future generations which were passed down to the youth.
Mero said PYO youth day coincided with Tsiikhenyie which was set aside for the youth to celebrate a vibrant youth life, adorning oneself in traditional attire and celebrating with songs, dances and sports.
Pfutseromi Village Council chairman Lhiwepelo Ritse delivered greetings on the occasion while Neiwou-ü Mero and Mhechie-ü Kapfo presented folk tunes and Elika Mero presented a special number.
The programme was chaired by PYO advisor Zekozo Mero, vote of thanks was proposed by PYO vice president Dietsho Ritse while KCBCK senior pastor Rev. Neikko Mero and CBCMK pastor Rev. Wepre Mero offered invocation and benediction respectively.
The programme would culminate on April 27.
It may be mentioned that Tsükhenyie is a festival celebrated at a time when nature renews itself with new leaves adorning the trees while plants and vegetables sprout from the soil and the sons and daughters of the soil get ready for a new season of plantation.
