Kohima Sumi Students Union holds biennial conference

The 4th biennial conference cum felicitation program of Kohima Sumi Students Union (KSSU) was held at Mount Olive College, Auditorium, Kohima, under the theme “Empowering Youth Leadership”, with Joint secretary to the government of Nagaland, Atoshili Zhimomi, as the special guest on April 12.

A press release by KSSU informed that Zhimomi in her message congratulated all successful NPSC and other competitive exam candidates, toppers in the academic courses, awardees in the sports, and other professions attributing their success to the support of their church and parents prayers, and encouraged them to pursue higher dreams.

Zhimomi emphasized the importance of ethics in public speaking and event management, pointing that for public events, speakers should be selected based on nature of the program, mentioning that selecting the right person for the right occasion was crucial.
She urged the student’s community to maintain professionalism in organizing events by inviting the right person, depending on the program or event.

Zhimomi later praised KSSU for organizing a combined conference and felicitation programme, emphasizing the need to limit public functions, minimize expenditures, and avoid unnecessary presentation for guest speakers.

Highlighting the role of student’s unions, she said that their primary focus should be working for welfare of the student’s community and encouraged the student union to use the student platform exclusively for student-related affairs.

Dwelling on career guidance, she urged the student’s community to identify their strength and weaknesses, emphasizing self-management and home study for competitive exams. She said qualifying for a competitive exam such as NPSC or other exams, doesn’t necessarily require going abroad or taking coaching classes, but instead depends on sincerity and dedication.

She further urged the student’s community to be ambassadors of peace for Sumi community fostering good relations with different Naga communities in the state capital, and taking responsibility for building bridges.

The evening session featured Nitoka V Swu as the guest speaker, while president, Kohima Sumi Officer Union, Kitto Swu, exhorted the gathering. On the occasion, five NSSB qualified candidates, 12 NPSC qualified candidates, five academic course toppers, and one National Sports Awardee, were felicitated.
