Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) has served a five-day ultimatum on the department of school education to cancel the rationalisation order and take corrective measures.
In a press release, KSU president Tingkim and general secretary A Pangnan cautioned that failure to act within the stipulated period would compel the union to take stronger measures including the shutting down of all government schools and offices in the district as a sign of protest.
KSU pointed out that representation was submitted to the commissioner & secretary to school education dated August 22, 2022, not to carry out any rationalisation of teachers without a proper ground reality report.
However, KSU said despite its concerns, a major rationalization has been executed, severely affecting numerous schools across the district “due to the influence of infamous political powers”. As a result of “this ill-planned decision”, KSU said several primary schools have been left with only one teacher, compromising the quality of education.
The union stated that some teachers have been transferred outside the district without relievers, leaving students stranded and helpless. “This arbitrary decision has placed an unjust burden on students and teachers alike, creating an educational crisis in our district,” KSU stated.
KSU said it also submitted a final reminder to the commissioner secretary school education through the deputy commissioner Mon, dated January 24, 2025, seeking appointment of six PGTs at newly upgraded GHSS-C before February 10, 2025. However, KSU said the authority failed to address the same.
KSU has urged the responsible authorities to address the pressing issue at the earliest in the interest of students and the future of education system.
