Khiamniungan Students Union (KSU) 61st assembly cum special session under the theme, “Learn and Lead” was held on January 17 at Thoktsur (Longsingking) Village, KSU Special Session Hall. According to a DIPR report, the session was graced by P. Longon, MLA, and Benei M Lamthiu, MLA, as special guest and guest of honour respectively. Addressing the gathering, Longon said he was blessed to serve to the
Khiamniungan people in different capacities as a student leader, as a tribe leader and as a four-time representative to Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA).
Underscoring the importance of peace and unity for development, he called upon the people to forgive and forget bitter past experiences, reconcile and work together for a better society. Appreciating MLA, Benei M Lamthiu’s commitment and dedication for the betterment of the society, Longon said they would work together to develop and uplift the community. The MLA also highlighted the importance of preserving the flora and fauna of the district.
In his speech, Lamthiu acknowledged Longsingking Village for exhibiting unity adding that unity brings peace, purpose and development.
He also encouraged the students to be more dedicated, disciplined and work hard with determination to achieve their goals. He assured to fulfil the grievances of his people and urged the gathering to co-operate with the representative and the government.
Earlier, KSU Noklak president, Shangchiu unveiled the monolith in commemoration of its 61st federal assembly cum special session which was dedicated by Peshu Baptist Doathi Pastor Haimong. Other highlights of the programme were short speeches by president KTC, welcome note by chairman Thoktsur village council, felicitation by education secretary, KSU and presidential address. Folk song and dance was performed by the host village. The comperes were Niamkoi and Mongchon P.
