KSU appeals for aid for students hit by floods

DIMAPUR, AUG 10 (NPN): Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) has sought emergency educational assistance for more than 664 students in Mon district who lost textbooks, notebooks, uniforms and other essential materials in recent landslides and floods.
In a representation to chief minister and Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) chairman through the deputy commissioner, Mon, KSU president Temwang and general secretary A. Pangnan said the disaster had caused serious educational hardship. While acknowledging government relief for affected households, KSU said students’ educational needs remained inadequately addressed.
The union said 319 students were left without functional school facilities after landslides severely damaged four private and two government schools.
With schools having reopened after the summer break, KSU said the situation had become critical as affected students were unable to attend classes normally without essential learning materials.
KSU urged the chief minister to sanction emergency relief funds for textbooks, notebooks, uniforms and other educational requirements. It also sought immediate intervention and temporary arrangements for the 319 students whose schools were rendered non-functional.
The union said losses had added to the financial burden on families already struggling to recover and urged that disaster-related hardships should not force students to discontinue education or face prolonged disruption.
