Highlighting the problem of inadequate teaching faculties at Wangkhao Government College (WGC) and government schools, Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) has asked the state government to enhance number of faculties at the college and revoke transfer orders of two teachers from two particular Government Middle School (GMS).
In a press release, KSU president, T. Noklem Konyak and general secretary, A. Pangnan have demanded “immediate enhancement” of two professors for English, three for Education, two for Economics, one for History, three for Political Science and three for Sociology before the resumption of this academic session for the smooth functioning of WGC.
KSU reminded that the union submitted a representation to the Director Higher Education Nagaland: Kohima, through the Deputy Commissioner Mon on June 17, 2021, citing the inadequate teaching faculties at WGC in comparison to the other Government Colleges in Nagaland.
The union pointed out that the college has only 26 assistant professors, out of which 14 are on contractual basis and the 12 others on regular basis.
KSU expressed deep anguish that the responsible authority did not pay any heed to the demands made by the union and the authority of WGC regarding shortage of assistant professions which lead to rejection of hundreds of students every year because of insufficient creation of section for new semester.
The union has also expressed dismay over “blatant misuse of power” by the department of school education by transferring two teachers from GMS Yannu Village and GMS Phuktong Village without reliever, without knowing the “fact that both the government schools lack adequate teachers”.
Demanding that the department immediately revoke the transfer orders of the two teachers, KSU said it would not tolerate transfer of any teachers from Mon District without reliever.
