KSU reiterates demand onpopulation-based reservation policy

DIMAPUR

Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) has reiterated its demand for review and reform of the existing state job reservation policy based on population ratio to ensure equitable justice.
In a reminder to state chief minister through the deputy commissioner (DC) Mon, KSU president Temwang and general secretary A Pangnan stated that Konyak tribe, constituting one of the largest tribal populations in Nagaland, continued to face “systemic marginalization” under the current job reservation framework.
KSU stated that disparity in employment opportunities, coupled with the lowest literacy rate, the highest rate of educated unemployment, and poor socio-economic indicators in Mon district, called for urgent redressal.
KSU said it was not just an appeal for policy reform, but a desperate cry for justice, equity, and recognition of their rightful share. The apex student body stated that delay in addressing its genuine demand was causing frustration and disillusionment among educated Konyak youth. KSU cautioned that failure to address the demand could lead to “undesirable social consequences.”
Therefore, KSU has urged the chief minister to undertake an immediate review and restructuring of the existing job reservation policy. It also called for introducing a population-based reservation system through a special cabinet decision without waiting for the release of the 2021 census.
