Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) has expressed disappointment at “utmost negligence” of education department in Mon district and served a 30-day ultimatum on the state government and the school education department to rectify the “existing anomalies” within the stipulated time. In a press release, KSU president, Loungai Wangnao , and press secretary, PhongLan Konyak, said the district education officer (DEO), who was supposed to shoulder the responsibility of the entire district, was transferred without reliever on August 31, 2014. KSU said that the DDEO, who was carrying out the charge of the DEO, retired in August 2016, adding that the office has been functioning without any officer till date. The union also expressed strong resentment over “efficiency” of SDEO Mon in pursuing duty regularly. It said that such lapses in the system have created “a huge educational chaos” in the district. “Today, if the department itself neglects its educational system then the future of the student community is at stake,” said KSU. Further, the union pointed out that non-availability of the responsible officers has created a lot of grievances among the staffs and people. KSU cautioned that it would not tolerate or compromise such act any further, which directly affected educational system of Mon district. Therefore, the union has appealed the minister of education & SCERT and school education director to take up “immediate remedial measure” in solving the irregularities that exist in the system.
