KU alleges harassment of travellers in Assam

DIMAPUR, JUL 11 (NPN)

Konyak Union (KU) has expressed concern over what it described as “recurrent and unwarranted interference” faced by travellers from Mon district while commuting through highways in Assam.
In a representation to the chief secretary, KU president K Yamao Konyak and general secretary Wango Konyak said that innocent travellers—including students, patients, and business persons—have reportedly been subjected to intrusive questioning, indiscriminate checks, and, in some cases, acts bordering on intimidation by Assam Police. It said these actions have caused immense inconvenience and psychological distress to the people of Mon district, who rely on these routes for access to medical care, education, employment, business and essential services.
Terming the actions as a violation of inter-state harmony and fundamental rights, KU urged the state government to intervene with Assam authorities and halt the alleged harassment. It also proposed setting up a 24×7 grievance redressal helpline for Mon-bound travelers in order to address such issues.
The union expressed the hope that the government would treat the matter with all seriousness and take appropriate steps to safeguard the rights and well-being of its people.
