DIMAPUR, AUG 4 (NPN): Konyak Union (KU) has urged the state government to urgently deploy additional machinery, technical manpower and resources to restore road connectivity in Mon district, severely affected by landslides and flash floods triggered by incessant monsoon rains.
In a letter to the minister of planning & transformation through the deputy commissioner (DC) Mon, KU president K Yamao Konyak and general secretary Wango Konyak said continuous rainfall since July 19 damaged roads at multiple locations and cut off access to several villages.
The union said the disruption affected movement of essential commodities, medical services and emergency response teams, causing hardship to residents.
KU said civil society organisations have been assisting restoration efforts by deploying 11 JCB excavators, one Poclain excavator, 10 dumpers and volunteers. However, repeated landslides due to ongoing rains slowed progress and reversed repair works. Calling the situation critical, KU urged the government to prioritise damaged road stretches and provide additional heavy machinery and technical support to speed up restoration.
The union said timely intervention would help restore connectivity, facilitate relief operations and reduce hardships faced by people across the district as the monsoon continues. It appealed for swift action to ensure safe movement and support communities affected by the prolonged disruption during the ongoing rainy season.
