DIMAPUR: Konyak Union (KU) has been spearheading restoration efforts in flood-affected areas since July 20, deploying private machinery funded entirely through public donations.
KU through its media cell said it had initiated restoration work on July 20 by requisitioning 12 JCBs, one Poclain excavator and 10 loader dumpers, with all operational expenses being met through public contributions. The union said restoration work was continuing to facilitate the movement of people and vehicles and requested residents to bear with the inconvenience until connectivity was fully restored.
Appealing for immediate government intervention, KU urged the department of roads and bridges and other line departments to support the ongoing restoration work to ensure its timely completion. The union also requested the District Administration, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and concerned agriculture and allied departments to activate survey teams to assess damage to properties and crop losses across the affected region and submit reports to the government at the earliest.
Further, KU urged Konyak legislators to impress upon the state government the need to address the economic losses suffered by the region, in line with the memorandum submitted by the union through the DC Mon, on July 21.
The union also appealed for the immediate deployment of a medical team to the relief camp at the KU office to address any health emergencies that may arise.
