Declaration of ban on polythene bags, non-iodized salt, use of salt for farming and chemical harmful for fish and human consumption in Konyak Soil, initiated by Konyak Union was launched today at bus station Mon.
President Konyak Union, Manlip konyak in his keynote address said that it is was a historic event for Konyak Naga to launch such a programme which was very much necessary and important for the land of Konyak. He reminded that God has created man in His own image to protect the environment but “we fail to honour God’s creation by neglecting our duty towards environment”. Therefore he requested the people of Mon district to make it their duty and shoulder the responsibility in protecting the environment by enforcing the use of biodegradable bags and avoid use of salt for farming and any harmful chemicals for fishing in Konyak soil with effect from September 1, 2016.
Deputy commissioner Mon, W. Honje konyak, while appreciating the Konyak Union for launching such an important programme, said it was very easy to announce, to launch or to adopt but difficult to practically implement it as it was a kind of challenge, a risk although a good initiative.
Therefore he urged the Konyaks to think about it seriously and not to make it a mockery. He encouraged the Konyaks to make it a beginning with step by step coordination and consultative meeting and make a strategy for the success of this programme.
He also requested all the unit leaders and church leaders to disseminate such information to reach all the corners of Konyak villages for the betterment of Konyak land.
Dignitaries like ASP Mon, Chief Medical Officer Mon, president Mon district Chamber of Commerce, executive secretary KBBB, president KSU and president KNSK also spoke on the occasion and all of them appreciates and supported the programme of KU and assured their cooperation.
The programme was chaired by Yuhwang vice president KU with Rev. J. Tinwang district chaplain invoking God’s presence.
