Konyak Union calls for rectification of Google Map boundary line

Konyak Union (KU) has called for rectification of Google Map boundary lines between Mon district and Charaideo district of Assam.

In a representation to Nagaland chief minister, KU president Tingthok Konyak and general secretary Manpang K Wangyen said they had observed discrepancies in Google Map representation that required immediate rectification.

Pointing out that the current mapping boundary inaccurately extended deep into Mon district, aligning significantly towards Assam, KU said that the boundary line specifically covered approximately 80-85% of Tizit town, including administrative, police and other department office buildings and public ground within Assam.

They said the incorrect mapping also affected the villages of Hota-Hoti and Tekun, which were established in Mon district as early as the 1960s. Recalling that Nagaland was officially created on December 1963 through a political agreement that bifurcated parts of Assam and incorporated territories from the Northeast Frontier Agency, predominantly inhabited by Nagas, KU said the historical records indicated a clear understanding of ancestral boundaries between Ahoms of Assam and the Konyak Nagas of Mon district.

Despite this, they lamented that the official and bilateral recognition of these boundaries remained unresolved and was currently under Supreme Court adjudication. As Tizit town and the villages of Hota-Hoti and Tekun fell entirely under Mon district, KU mentioned that the current misrepresentation on Google Map was not only misleading, but could also lead to technical discrepancies in official documentation and potential confrontation between the parties.

In light of the above, KU requested the chief minister to expedite the rectification/correction of the mapping inaccuracies with the department concerned. They cautioned that failure to address the matter promptly by the department/authority concerned and in the event of any eventualities arising out of this misinterpretation and incorrect information by Google Map, KU would not be held responsible.
