Konyak Union (KU) has issued a 24-hour ultimatum demanding the immediate and unconditional release of Konyak civil society leaders allegedly held hostage by NSCN-K (Yung Aung) group.
KU president K. Yamao Konyak and general secretary Wango Konyak said the demand was made following an emergency meeting held on October 12, at KU office in Mon. The meeting was attended by members of the Union Executive Council (UEC), the advisory board, and representatives from all Konyak civil society organizations.
The house termed the abduction of Konyak civil society leaders as an unlawful act and a blatant defiance of the KU’s standing resolution. It warned that failure to release the hostages within the stipulated time would compel the union to “undertake any course of action it deems appropriate and necessary.”
KU further directed all members of the Konyak community, particularly the youth, to remain vigilant and be prepared to respond to any subsequent directives from the KU office. It also instructed all 13 KU unit presidents to report to KU office, Mon Hq, on October 13, to deliberate on the next course of action.
