KU, KTC, USLP reaffirm abstention from ULB polls

Konyak Union (KU), Khiamniungan Tribal Council (KTC) and United Sangtam Likhüm Pümj (USLP) have reaffirmed to uphold the February 23, 2024 Chenmoho resolution to abstain from taking part in the elections to the Urban Local Bodies (ULB) scheduled to be held on June 26.


KU: In this regard, KU president Tingthok Konyak, KNSK president Ponglem Konyak and KSU president Temwang Angh, in an office order, directed all individuals, groups and political parties within Konyak jurisdiction to abstain from taking part/filing nominations for the upcoming ULB elections.


“This order will remain in effect unitl Government of India and the State government accede to the demand for the Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT) as offered by the Government of India through the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA),” they declared. In this regard, the KU bodies warned that any individual, group or political parties failing to adhere to the order would be doing so at their own risk and volition.


They also warned that those who defy the order would be deemed “traitors to the public’s genuine cause and will be remembered as such, with their names engraved in stone as traitors.”
The union also said that defaulters would be subjected to bear all responsibilities of the Konyaks and also reimburse all expenses incurred by the people in support of the FNT cause.


The unions said that this order has been issued in the interest of upholding the collective decision of the Konyak people.


KTC: Khiamniungan Tribal Council said that the council held a joint meeting with all frontal organizations including GBs and prominent leaders of the tribe on June 5 and reaffirmed to uphold the spirit unanimous ENPO Chenmoho resolution and subsequent reaffirmation on May 14, 2024 at Tourist lodge Dimapur.


In joint resolution, KTC general secretary P Hato and vice president WC Kui, KSU president Shangchiu, KMH president K Chongkoi, NDGBA president Lamyah Hd GB Noklak town and All Ward Union Noklak town, said that they will steadfastly committed for abstention of the upcoming ULB election against the failure to settle the protracted FNT demand for Eastern Nagaland through the MHA (GoI). “Any individual accede to violate this resolution shall invite KTC R/M No. (6),” it added.


USLP: United Sangtam Likhüm Pümji (USLP) has once again reminded and directed the citizens of Sangtam community to stand by the Eastern Nagaland Public Emergency called by the ENPO and the subsequent public resolution adopted on February 23, 2024 at Chenmoho “not to participate in any Central and State election.” This was also reaffirmed on May 14, 2024 at Tourist Lodge, Dimapur.


USLP, therefore, directed all its citizens to abstain from taking part in the forthcoming ULB under its jurisdiction. Failure to comply and violate the directive by any individual or group will be sole responsible and at own risk. USLP stated that any individual or group failing to comply with this directive will do so at their own risk and be solely responsible.
