Konyak Union (KU) officials on Friday called on the state chief minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio at his office, New Secretariat, Kohima, where the union submitted a reminder letter reiterating its demand for the creation of new districts through the bifurcation of Mon District.
At the meeting, Konyak Union president K Yamao Konyak apprised the chief minister on matters relating to the proposed new districts. He also highlighted the prevailing security concerns in Mon district.
KU president particularly highlighted the situation in Tizit–Tiru–Naginimora border region and sought urgent intervention of the state government.
KU also urged the state government to expedite the completion of the Nagaland Foothill Road project. The union stated that the Konyak people continued to face immense hardship while travelling through Assam highways.
KU said the chief minister congratulated the newly inducted KU team and assured the union of his support and necessary interventions in addressing the concerns of the people of Konyak.
Meanwhile, KU, in a reminder letter to the chief minister, highlighted the long-standing demand for the creation of new administrative districts within Konyak under Mon district.
KU reminded that Mon district, owing to its vast geographical expanse, challenging terrain, and growing population, faced significant administrative bottlenecks under the present district structure. The union stated that creation of new districts was imperative for addressing those challenges.
Therefore, Konyak Union urged the chief minister to expedite the process of examining and addressing the genuine public demand.
