The Konyak Union Myanmar (KUM) has lauded NSCN (Niki) call for unity among Nagas including those living across the border without biases or differentiation but as “one Naga”.
In a press note, KUM president PM Aman and general secretary K Akham Honwang maintained that the borders lines were drawn by outsiders, without the consent and knowledge of Nagas.
KUM said Eastern Konyak Naga areas were still in dilemma whom to call as Naga national worker or so called “Naga Political Group” leaders. In this regard, KUM has appealed to all to recognised them as one Naga rather than differentiating as “Nagaland Naga and Myanmar Naga”, as Niki had clearly mentioned that “Nagas is Nagas”
Konyak Union Myanmar said Eastern or Myanmar Nagas still stand for Naga issue since the 1950s, when NNC came in to “Eastern Naga area to reform the Naga nation to gain full independence.”
KUM said that when NNC came to Eastern Naga areas, they did not mention or call them as Myanmar Naga.
Unfortunately, Konyak Union Myanmar said some Naga national leaders started calling them as Myanmar Nagas from 2010, which was “unacceptable” for the Eastern/Myanmar Nagas.
Lamenting the plight of the people living across the border, Konyak Union Myanmar said they were still living far from human standard with “no education, communication, health centre” etc. KUM said neither the Myanmar government nor Indian government provided any development. This cause should be recognised by West Naga people.
In this regard, Konyak Union Myanmar sought clarification that if there was differentiation among Nagas, why were NSCN/GPRN groups using the same motto and nomenclature. The union also questioned how “Indian Naga leaders” could serve all Nagas without borders. “If their service is for the common Naga, they should re-think about the past struggle,” it added.
Konyak Union Myanmar also reminded all NSCN/GPRN groups about the formation of Naga national movement, which was “reformed from the Eastern Konyak soil particularly in general Naga area for the Nagas cause.”
Meanwhile, pointing out on the issue of “illegal fund” raised by individuals, Konyak Union Myanmar cautioned that if the any Eastern Konyak student was doing so, strong action would be initiated and that the union would not be held responsible.
