Kohima Village Council (KVC) felicitated sportspersons from the village who participated in the recently concluded North East Games and Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) Wrestling Meet 2024.

Speaking at the felicitation programme at KVC hall here on Wednesday as special guest, Nagaland Football Association president Neibou Sekhose, described the athletes as “icons and gems” of the village. Sekhose stated Kohima village has potential to produce national and international players and therefore called upon the gathering to not bask on the success at the smallest level, but set long term goals and achieve heights at national and international levels.

Congratulating the athletes, KVC chairman, Helievio-o Solo, said the village council seeing the interest in sports, would frame policies to promote sports in the village. The chairman said that the village was today reaping the harvest of the founders of the Kohima Village Sports Meet, which was founded 80 years back. Solo implored upon the athletes to continue to strive in their field and lead the village and their own name to greater heights.

KVC vice chairman, Zeneizo Rutsa, said the village was proud of the many achievements of the athletes. Reminding the athletes of the quote “Pride comes before a fall”, Rutsa said “we should be humble, continue to pray and give thanks to our lord for the blessings upon the village.”

Altogether, 35 athletes were feted during the programme, which included Kezhaseluo-o Pienyü, Champion 29th NWA Championship 2024, 14 medal winners in various events at Northeast Games 2024 and medal winners at various zonal and national level games were felicitated.
