DIMAPUR: ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Dimapur, under ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Medziphema, conducted a Frontline Demonstration (FLD) on the promotion of improved paddy variety RC Maniphou-15 at Nikhekhu village on June 2. Altogether 24 farmers attended the programme.
Addressing the participants, Dr. Phool Kumari, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Dimapur, briefed on the various activities and services of KVK for the farming community. She also created awareness on the ongoing “Khet Bachao Abhiyan” campaign, stressing sustainable practices, soil health management and efficient use of farm resources.
Dr. Bendangla Imsong, Chief Technical Officer (Plant Breeding), delivered a lecture on scientific techniques of lowland paddy cultivation, highlighting nursery management, timely transplanting, balanced nutrient use, weed control and integrated pest management. She emphasized the advantages of RC Maniphou-15 in enhancing productivity and farmers’ income. E. Lireni Kikon, Assistant Chief Technical Officer (Plant Protection), spoke on balanced fertilizer use and soil testing, encouraging farmers to adopt integrated nutrient management for sustainable crop production.
During the programme, farmers actively interacted with KVK personnel, shared concerns and expressed keen interest in adopting improved practices. A total of 400 kgs of RC Maniphou-15 seeds were distributed to the farmers. The event concluded with an interactive session addressing farmers’ queries on paddy cultivation.
