KVK Dimapur organises ‘golden jubilee torch prayan’

Commemorating the golden jubilee of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), a ceremonial torch was received from KVK Phek by KVK Dimapur, who then handed it over to KVK Peren, during the “golden jubilee torch prayan” programme on March 30 at KVK Dimapur Conference Hall.


A press release by KVK Dimapur stated that the “torch handover” started at Zonal Action Plan Workshop 2024 which was held at Umiam, Meghalaya. The ceremonial torch journey represents the continuity of knowledge and commitment to the agricultural process.


During the programme, senior scientist and head, KVK Dimapur, Dr. Phool Kumari, shared the significance of KVKs and their role in agriculture and allied sectors. She mentioned that KVKs serve as a complete hub for technology transfer, capacity building, market information, and skill development for farmers at the grassroots level. Dr. Kumari said the first KVK was established by the ICAR on March 21, 1974, in Puducherry, Tamil Nadu. She said at present there are 731 KVKs in India and 11 KVKs in Nagaland.


Special invitee, DAO Chümoukedima, Bodevi Shuya, applauded the activities of KVK. He also shared the importance of conserving indigenous crop varieties and exhorted the farmers to work harder for the benefit of the state. Scientist (Animal Science), ICAR, Nagaland Centre, Dr. Mahak Singh, shared the importance of artificial insemination in pigs, pig and poultry rearing as flourishing enterprises and urged farmers to be pig breeders for higher economic returns.
